Alumni Board
Last week we held our first ever Alumni Advisory Board meeting, with 18 diverse and wonderful members in attendance. These attendees ranged in age from 24 to 70. Some knew others in the room from overlapping trainings…some knew no one other than me. Some had taken the training as school students, some as school teachers. Some had performed on our main stage, others had been featured in our documentary. What we all shared, was the experience of having re-discovered ourselves together, through the writing and enacting of our stories. And that sharing was enough to provide a cohesiveness and comfort that was shared by all in attendance. For me…it was a dream come true.
What is your story?
The narrative we hold about ourselves, and the lives we lead, defines us. It can either limit or un-limit us. Enliven or deflate us. Depression is an epidemic in our country, and promises to be the second leading cause of missed time at work right after heart conditions. To sustain emotional health, whether 6, 16 or 60, we all need the experience of being seen and heard, and of finding meaning in our lives; lives that remain open to revision…
