Workshops/Summer Programs
All of our workshops feature the signature FYV method:
- writing a free-write in response to a trigger photograph
- shaping it into the treatment containing two characters and one conflict, in response to questions from the coach
- writing and many times re-writing this response as a short play
- and sharing the completed work with invited guests.
In all cases the visual prompt invites participants to write about what is most on their minds and in their hearts. And, the process of developing this into a piece that features balanced characters, with strong wants, who in some manner resolve whatever conflict has come between them, always predicts a transformation on the part of the author, who leaves the experience with a sense of just that…’author-ity.’ When these pieces are shaped in a community of others, we gain the sense that others share or understand our experience, and when we share them with an invited audience, we are supported by the sense of empathy and recognition that always characterizes the response to well crafted and meaningful work. This flexible model is offered in modules as short as one hour, and as long as a year. Anyone can participate, and everyone can benefit….all you need is a pen, paper, and a chair.
